inuyasha is pinned to a tree with a sacred arrow by an angry priestess love interest (kikyou). kikyou dies and inuyasha is cursed to nothingness (neither life nor death) for the rest of eternity (muahahahaha!) and kikyou dies from injuries. that's all set about 500 years ago. present day, school girl kagome is dragged through the well on her family's property by some scary monster. kagome wakes inuyasha from his 50 year sleep with latent spiritual powers and she falls in love with him. unfortunately, inuyasha doesn't reciprocate right away. kagome shatters the sacred jewel and priestess from the furture and angry hanyou have to put it back together. well, everyone's after the jewel and yada-yada-yada, someone steals kikyou's bones and resurrects her but, uh-oh! kagome is kikyou's reincarnation so kikyou doesn't have a soul. she tries to steal it from kagome but loses the fight and now lives off the souls of dead girls. kinda creepy. well, inuyasha doesn't know what to think. he was beginning to like kagome but then his old love returns from the grave. he feels guilty and thus begins the kagome/inuyasha/kikyou triangle. anyway, in one of his moments of stupidity, inuyasha promises dead-girl-walking that he'd go to hell with her. kagome overhears and is heartbroken. it's a regular sob-fest. anyway, inuyasha gets out of going to hell right away because they still have to complete the sacred jewel.
and all that was written so everyone could understand this quote. there is, of course, a little more to the story but that'd take too long to explain. i was reading someone's art journal and ran across this:
Although I have to say that Inuyasha is the biggest dope ever. I mean, how many millions of girls have at some point told an ex to go to hell? He's got to be the first one to ever take it literally.i actually have a rather strong opinion on whether or not inuyasha actually loves kikyou or not but i'll save that for someone who actually cares.
