things i've learned growing up

There are things I've learned as I've grown older and grown up. Sometimes I wish I'd known them before I had to learn them the hard way.

1. Despite my deepest, dearest wishes, money really doesn't grow on trees.
2. Once puberty is over, you can no longer eat what you want in the quantities you want without dire consequences.
3. A year really isn't all that long. A day is even shorter.
4. In some aspects, college really is the best time of your life. Other aspects I could have done without.
5. The more I know of the world, the more disgusted I get. At the same time, that doesn't mean I hate the world.
6. Not everyone is nice. Though I've known that for a long while, it's still depressing just how many people aren't nice.
7. People in a service industry get the raw end of the deal.
8. Everyone hates their landlord.
9. 20 pounds is so easy to find but so hard to lose.
10. Not everyone does the right thing.
11. Not everyone pulls their own weight.
12. Group work sucks even when you get out of school.
13. There will always be cliques.
14. Being a leader is hard, but being a leader/boss over your peers sucks.
15. Respect/honor seems to be a diminishing quality over the years.
16. Impatience is not just a sin of the youth. Neither is disrespect.
17. Manners are important no matter where you are or who you're dealing with.
18. Everyone falls on hard times.
19. Almost everyone wears a mask and puts on a show.
20. Some friendships pass, some remain, and some never were.
