Anyway, Jeannine and Jonathan are coming into town late Thursday for a college friend's wedding on Saturday. They're bringing Owen as well! I'm so excited. I get to keep him as they go out to Portland to see their brand new niece. Why should I get a puppy when I can just keep my sister's for a while?
I think the rain's brought out that wildlife that loves the damp. Sunday I discovered several turtles crossing roads. It's been ages since I'd seen a turtle. Well, we were on our way to church and had stopped at a stop sign when my mom goes, "Oh, look. A turtle."
And there he is, just plodding across the intersection. I decided that I had to save it and jumped out of the car to move him to the other side. Later Sunday evening, there was another turtle crossing the pavement only this time it was on the driveway so I could grab my camera. I could only get one shot because it started raining again. He was really booking it too...
I've also gotten a few new old books. Just two and both were pretty cheap. One is an 1897 copy of Herodotus with a fold out map.
The second book I got today at the local used bookstore. Unfortunately, they don't have a very wide selection of 19th century printings, but I managed to find one that was of interest. It's a copy of Guy Mannering or The Astrologer bye Sir Walter Scott and printed in 1881 complete with illustrations. It's probably the cheapest book I've gotten in years. As you can see, it's got some wear to the cover.
My toes! The book refused to stand on its own so I had to prop it.
One illustration of several.
I'm not really sure what the book's about so I'll have to read it.
