it's a doozy

have you ever had one of those days where life throws you a curve ball? one of those insane things that you swing at and miss despite your best efforts? you'd think i'd be good at curve balls with the number the pitcher of life throws me. this morning i was blindsided by curve ball #1. i had a presentation due in western global perspectives. no big deal. it gets to be my turn and what do i discover? i had forgotten my note cards. i had my powerpoint but not my notes that expanded on my points. so i'm like, "okay, i can do this. i've done enough research." i get up there, wing it, feel pretty good about it, sit down and the next thing the prof says to me is, "do you have your paper?"

O_o?!

paper?! what paper? you mean there's more to this assignment than just teaching for fifteen minutes? holy crap am i in trouble. i manage to bluff my way through saying i'd forgotten it... yeah, like forgotten it was even assigned! i borrow someone's syllabus and flip through and find the paper requirements. i almost died right there. four to six pages! what the heck?! i can bs my way through 2 pages but four?! no way! okay. deep breath. i can do this. the paper has to be in the prof's office before she arrives tomorrow morning... i've got 17 hours to research and write this paper.

so i thought...

curve balls #2 and 3 hit me during lunch, one right after the other. curve ball #2 threw me into another fit of panic. it's another paper. what the hell? who decided to screw with my life today? another four page paper... this one is attending a church service in a different tradition than the one you're used to and write a field report on it. uh... yeah. i'm in trouble yet again. curve ball #3 isn't so bad, just one of those "why'd it have to be tomorrow type things". i've got an astronomy test.
