also, just for kicks and giggles, have you ever done something outside the social norm? i'm taking an interpersonal communications class and we were assigned 10 things to choose from that were nonverbal communication violations. the 10 things were:
1. shake hands when greeting a friend (something you wouldn't normally do with this person)i tell you, you can get some of the funniest responses.
2. approach a person who you do not know and start talking to them from an especially close distance
3. wave to a stranger until she/he returns feedback (verbal or nonverbal)
4. whistle continuously while seated next to a group of friends or strangers.
5. sit across from a stranger, smile and hold eye contact until you receive feedback
6. hold a conversation with a friend while touching his/her shoulder continuously
7. take up as much space as possible at a table where some of your friends are seated
8. do not make eye contact with a friend who strickes up a conversation with you--look down at the floor or look over his/her shoulder
9. expose your tongue (sign of concentration) while reading or doing homework--sit near friends
10. make eye contact and smile at as many people as possible in passing in an effort to elicit feedback
