i'm cursed

I'm sure everyone's experienced this feeling but I'm going to post about it anyway. I don't really think myself vain but I'm about to get really shallow (perhaps I've always been really shallow and I've just ignored that fact) and comment on my appearance. I try to keep myself well-groomed or at least clean and an attempt at neat. My success at both may vary but that's beside the point.

There are some days I look in the mirror and think "Dang! I'm good looking!" and then there are other days when I look in the mirror and think "Who created such a horrible, reflecting thing?" Then there's the rare day when I look in the mirror and think both. Those are the days I know are going to be messed up.

Tomorrow is my day off. It's going to be wonderful. I'm going to sleep in till 8. Yes, it'll be great.

Today was an exhausting day. I got to work late (I left my house late and then hit every stoplight all the way there). Jessica got there at the same time and me. I was momentarily confused. I'd thought that I was opening. Turns out she was doing admin stuff. Go figure.

Anyway, we've decided that I'm cursed. My 10 o'clocks have a tendency to not show up or show up late or call out. That's usually not such a big deal because the next shift comes in at 12 (or sometimes is begged to come in early). Today, I was watching Jessica do inventory as the time got closer to 10. I made some comment about my 10 o'clock not showing and she expressed disbelief. Ten o'clock rolls around and the shift's not there. We shrug, say maybe she's running late. Fifteen minutes later, the manager walks by, sees me standing behind the counter and asks, "It's about time for you to go on your fifteen."

"My 10 o'clock's not here."

"Who's your 10 o'clock?"

"I don't know. I don't have a DAS back here."

The manager goes off, checks the DAS and returns with the name. She says that she's going to call the girl and sends me on my fifteen and has Jessica cover for me. I check the schedule in the back and turns out the girl is actually an 11-7. Ah, makes sense now.

Eleven o'clock comes and passes and we get a call from the manager. My 11 o'clock has called out and I'm basically by myself until the closing shift arrives. Grreeeeeaaaaaat. Jessica proceeds to laugh and say that it's official. I'm cursed. Fortunately, it wasn't a busy day today otherwise things could've gotten bad.

Oh!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Its official! You completely and totally need a pay raise! If you're 10 o'clocks keep calling in sick AND you handle it just fine and dandy (or as much so as possible) then you should get a raise starting...... NOW! k? good!

nice work there - sounds like you'll give the managers a run for their money soon.
