Friday I arrived at work and chugged away at opening the cafe and setting everything up. Friday was going to be a good day... not because I had Saturday off but just because. My day wasn't bad. my 10 o'clock showed up on time. We had a couple laughs. The bookstore was hurting so she would run back and forth between cashwrap and the cafe. We're standing behind the counter... NOT leaning on the counter because that's not allowed... and this suit walks in. Broad-shouldered, tall, dark, and handsome. I'm sure we've all seen suits like that. My coworker gets called to cashwrap so I talk his order. Joke around with him, get him talking, etc. Just being my normal, "I'm happy to be working" self. I ring up his drink (total of $4.18) and he hands me a $100. Of course. Suit has money. I type it in and count out change of $95.82... supposedly.
Not unkindly. "You shorted me."
Stunned. Embarrassed. Flustered. "Did I? Let me see."
He hands the bills back to me since I'd given him the right change and I count... $95... Why do I still get $95? Umm...
"You gave me $75."
"Oh, I'm sorry..."
I don't have any more $10s and my mind goes blank. I finally pull out some fives and hand back his bills. He laughs and asks, "Should I make sure?"
"Sure. I'm an idiot. Go ahead and check."
He counts. "Now you gave me too much."
Oh, the embarrassment. He hands me $10 back. "Thank you."
I'm soooooooo stupid. I'd wished the floor would open up and swallow me.
Saturday was not a good day. My 10 o'clock was 2 hours late and it's a holiday weekend. I wanted to destory something. He arrives at noon... and I discover that not only did he think his shift was a 12 o'clock but he hasn't been trained. He was absolutely no help. I wanted to cry. But, my manager got to work at 12:30 and sent me on lunch so I got a nice 30 minutes to hide from the masses.

I hate it when that happens. I also hate it when customers buy things from the duty free cart in euros and then don't give exact change, so I have to go scrambling around the plane doing exchange rate forumulas in my head. Money = Frustrating.
