wal-mart

Today I ran errands. I went all the way down to the Galleria area to try on a dress at Ross. Then I wandered around the mall for a bit but didn't see anything I liked (so much the better) and then I decided to drop by Wal-Mart for candles. You know, those tea light candles. Anyway, it doesn't really matter why I was there because it's what happened as I was getting into my car that is worth telling about. I walk across that mile long parking lot open my car door and next thing I know I hear this "Hooty-hoo!" from across the parking lot. I turn to see this... guy coming towards me and he waves, shouting "hi!" again. As he gets closer he says, "Just a moment, let me put this in my car." I wait patiently, turn my car on, and prepare to defend myself. It's the Wal-Mart parking lot after all.

He comes over, introduces himself as Charles and asks me how I am. I tell him that I'm fine.

"What school do you go to?"

"I'm not in school."

"You're not. What are you doing with your time then?"

"Working."

"Working. That's kind of general. Where?"

.... "A coffee shop."

"The one down in Five Points?"

"No, up by the Summit."

"Ah, 280. What are you doing on this end of town?"

"Running errands."

"A good looking, well-built woman like you must have a man. So, where's your man?"

I laugh, meanwhile thinking 'Great.' "He's busy today."

"Ah, but you are saying that you have one?"

"Yes."

"Tsk. Do you need a friend?"

Umm... friend? I don't think I want to be the type of friend you're thinking. "No. Not today."

"No friend? Come on, girl."

I stutter and stumble over words before spouting out something. Finally, he understands that I'm ready to leave the Wal-Mart parking lot and offers his hand (again) and states, "Well, Kaitlin, you said you were fine and I have to agree. It was nice meeting you. Take care."

"You too."

And that is another random "Try to Pick Kaitlin Up" moment brought to you by the letter "W."
