it has come to my attention that some people have the audacity to claim one field as solely their own. it is not often that someone's opinion royally ticks me off, after all, it is their opinion and i would not be a proper college student (or world citizen) if i did not give others the option of at least voicing said opinion. but, when they press upon people their own ignorant thoughts and put down any person's attempts in an area not their expertise, i say i rather get annoyed with them.
now, if you do not wish to read the article presented, i will sum up in saying that if you are not a professional writer you are hereby forbidden to lift a pen and jot down your creative thoughts. oh no! that would deminish the art of real writers. heaven forbid! after all, real writers are born, not made. if you cannot whip up a masterpiece in your first sitting then you are expressedly opposed of ever attempting again, if indeed you were premitted to try in the first place.
true, not everyone should be a novelist. there are some who have not developed a story-telling technique suitable to others, but it does take time and it does take practice. after all, i highly doubt van gogh or michealangelo painted the wonders that are known worldwide today early in their careers.
shall i point out the purpose of nano for you who do not know of it? nanowrimo is a chance for people to express their creative side along with thousands of others who join the challenge. it's all in good fun (and we have so few thinkers in america these days). i don't know if you've noticed, but all "great works of literature" are from europe. france, germany, and great britain to name a few. where are all the great american authors? true, we have people like grisham, king, and few others but those are recent. we may even claim poe as a great american poet/writer but what is there to brag in that? today we sit on our rears and demand attention and speedy service. we expect it and do not take the time to sit down and plot out an original story line. who wants to do that? it takes far too much of our time and why expand on the creative mind when others can do it for you? nano gives regular people a chance to break into the literary field. regular people like students, parents, construction workers, doctors, etc. why the need for the title of "writer" in your professional profile? author's hardly make anything unless they have great publishing deals like ms. rowling.
anyway, just because hundreds complete a novel in a month doesn't mean that the process ends there. many of the winners go on to edit and rewrite their primitive works. i'm all for amature writers creating a novel. expand your minds! express your creativity! don't let the tight-ass, egotistical professional writers get you down! write, write, WRITE! if ms. hromic is threatened by the amature then let her be! if she's that self-conscious about her own ability to write, then good riddance! i for one will not cease my writing and i know others won't as well. future author's of the world, unite!
