I lay in bed this morning, warmly snuggled under my blankets with the space heater churning away blissfully unaware of the sunrise. I woke on my own, my eyes opening and the first thought that crossed my mind was (as I'm sure any other person's thought would be if they didn't have heat) it's cold in here. As my brain struggled to adjust to the harshness of wakefulness the next thought was about the time. I certainly didn't remember my alarm going off.
I rolled over and swung my arm for the phone (motor skills are lacking for the first few moments of consciousness). I checked the time. 6:56. Ah, 4 more minutes of lovely sleep until my alarm goes off. Yes, I can go back to sleep for 4 minutes. 6:56. I frown. Why does it feel like I'm late? 6:56. I roll onto my back and frown at the ceiling. What day is it? 6:56. I check the date. 02/28/08. Hmm.... What day is it? I check the mini calendar on my phone. Oh, it's Thursday. Blink........ Blink...... Bli-- "THURSDAY!"
Shipment's going to be here in 4 MINUTES! I proceed to dress and then throw myself down the stairs, out the door and into my car. I make it into work at 7:13 and apologize to the shipment guy.
He finishes dragging everything into the store at about 7:50 and as he walks out the door he says, "See you next week."
"I'll be on time next week!"
edit (7:30): Well, it looks like we'll be housing another cat. Sheila's cat was discovered somehow and now we have to house the kitty until Sheila moves out and finds another apartment. We'll have a kitty for 3 or 4 months now.
